Suzanne and Dan enjoy collaboratively presenting related poems and visual imagery, attempting to provide an intimate sharing of experience for the reader or listener. Suzanne has illustrated the covers of several of Dan’s books, and their chapbook,
Field Notes, mingles Dan’s short poems with Suzanne’s free-style drawings.
Dan finds his bliss in the following ways: writing in coffee shops, exploring natural areas "to keep an eye on things," and seeking fresh visual experiences in art museums with Suzanne. He feels diversely inspired by his native city of London and his alternate life in Virginia's Blue Ridge region, where you can find him searching under logs and stones for salamanders. Suzanne finds her deepest bliss walking through fields and woods with sketchbook and pen, collecting specimens and recording her observations. She maintains a studio in Bristol, Virginia, where those collections and sketches become paintings. Currently her exhibit "Notes on the State of Virginia" is touring the Commonwealth. Lovely. What a nice collaboration. Look forward to future posts.
ReplyDeleteI love this collaboration Suzanne and Dan-looking forward to more!
ReplyDeleteI find the poetry videos on this site emphasize the poem itself, not the special effects of the video. While the images are quite seductive, the paintings enhance but never detract from the reading. I also like the way you place the text below the video, thus giving someone (like me) a reference to the actual written word and shape of the poem. Excellent work.
